Somashekhar Basavaraj brings in 39+ years of industry experience in Electronics & Semiconductors domain and is a serial Entrepreneur. He worked in different roles starting as IC Design engineer, Developed sub-system & System level Electronics solutions to Industrial & Medical applications. He held many leadership positions in VLSI industry, responsible for building VLSI Design Infrastructure & Echo-system in India, Leading large IC Design teams. He is passionate for Developing & Indigenising technology in India for various applications including Electric Vehicles in Automotive industry.

Before co-founding EVDrive Technologies, Soma was the Senior Vice President at Tessolve Semiconductors, a Hero Electronics venture heading a large VLSI Design team. Prior to Tessolve, he was the Co-founder & CEO of ANALOGSEMI, providing Analog & Mixed signal IC design services to global semiconductor clients.

Prior to ANALOGSEMI, he was the Technology Manager at Tata Elxsi, responsible for the VLSI Design technical delivery and strategic Business development for the Semiconductor technology group. Previous to this , Soma worked for GE Global Research Centre (GE-GRC), Bangalore, leading the Analog team on multiple projects at IC level, Sub-system & System level for Industrial and medical applications. Soma & co-inventors have 5 approved patents on analog interface circuits & control systems.

Soma started his career  at Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a pioneer in Indian Semiconductors Industry and was responsible for designing multiple analog ICs and was heading Photomask Production group. He  played  a strategic role in setting up VLSI Design infrastructure & Semiconductor manufacturing facility and Worked Closely with Wafer Fabs, Assembly, Packaging & Testing teams.

He holds bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Mysore University and MS in Microelectronics from Bircham International University, Spain.

With 39+ years of experience in the technology industry, Sham brings a tremendous breadth of expertise and talent. Prior to co-founding EVDrive Technologies, Sham spent his long career in various engineering leadership roles as an electrical engineer specifically in the computer architecture field. 

Sham started his career at the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) at their Master Control Facility at Hassan. He then worked in the Transmission R&D at Indian Telephone Industry(ITI Limited) in Bangalore. Later, as a recipient of Hindu-Hitachi scholarship, he worked for Hitachi Corporation in Japan. Right after, Sham immigrated to the United States and worked at Intel Corporation for over 32 years across multiple R&D divisions and currently holds 42 US and international patents in the area of Computer Security and memory architecture. He currently holds an advisory role for an environmental monitoring startup and provides his expertise, especially in the area of satellite communication.

Along the way, Sham focussed his interest on EV technology and built two electric vehicles in his garage. He also consults as an EV specialist, for Oregon Electrical Vehicle Association(OEVA) mentoring and helping it’s members interested in converting their gasoline vehicles to electric. 

Sham holds Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute Of Technology, Madras (IITM).
